Uncovering Health Disparities: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Creating a Health Equity Report with Databrew

How the WHO-WPRO evaluated health outcomes, behaviors, and disparities related to non-communicable diseases, and identified key indicators and health inequalities of older people in the Philippines.

Stakeholder: World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office

Services Provided: Data Analysis & Report Generation

Challenge

The WHO WPRO is dedicated to improving health outcomes across 37 countries and territories. To promote equitable healthcare access, they gathered data on health outcomes, behaviors, and diseases in the elderly population, and while they had collected this data, they needed a clearer picture of what it revealed about health inequities in the Philippines. With a better understanding of these trends, they could inform policies and drive meaningful change, but to do so, they needed answers to some key questions:

  1. Which indicators best capture health outcomes and behaviors related to non-communicable diseases?

  2. Which social determinants of health are most effective for measuring health disparities?

The Process

Establishing the Report Framework.

As the final product was a written report, we started by creating a report outline, which was refined through iterative feedback and served as our roadmap for delivering exactly what was needed.

Defining the Methodology Together.

Continuous Progress and Feedback.

Results

After coding, refining, and analyzing the data, Databrew identified key indicators related to health outcomes, behaviors, and disparities affecting the elderly in the Philippines. We observed general trends in health and how various societal factors influence health status within the target population.

Thanks to our approach, WHO-WPRO is now fully empowered to continue the work. With a detailed repository documenting how the data was cleaned, processed, analyzed, and visualized, the WPRO team can dive deeper into the analysis and build upon what we started.

Conclusions

All data has a story. We tell it.

Our mission is to make data accessible to everyone, helping people unlock insights faster and create positive change. We collaborate closely with teams but have also developed a leading data management tool that streamlines data collection and analysis—combining automation with a personal, human touch.
